About Us

You know us already.

You’ve walked past us in the freezer section at Harris Teeter. You’ve no doubt seen us after school as we’ve spent countless hours waiting outside dance class or gymnastics class or swim lessons. You’ve passed our respective SUVs on 51 or Providence or 485 … you know, the ones with the lettered magnet saying which school our kids go to? Yeah, that’s us.

You’ve probably waited for one of us to hurry up and finish changing the baby in the Chick-Fil-A restroom so your child can go potty. And our children have probably bumped into your cart at Costco. For that we apologize.

You’ve sat behind us in church, you’ve sat at the booth next to us in a restaurant while we frantically doled out a seemingly endless supply of goodies from the diaper bag to keep all our children placated. And, it probably only worked about 50 percent of the time. For that we also apologize.

But, the point is, our worlds revolve around our children and our lives as residents of Charlotte, North Carolina. Whether you’re a parent or apparent in the Queen City, Charlotte Time Out provides helpful, humorous anecdotes about life through our eyes.

Meet us:

SouthernMama

A native of Kentucky, Kelli Masilun has called Charlotte home for over 12 years now. A partner at Mindstorm Communications Group, she is a small business owner and marketer in her only paying job. She is the lucky wife of Jeff and the three-times blessed mother of Peyton, Evie and Wills. She vaguely recalls a time when she had interesting hobbies, but these days she’s more likely to be found in the carpool line, at Chik-Fil-A or frantically combing her house in search of her iPhone and car keys. She loves living in the South, has a passion for learning new skills,  and is a firm believer that a good hug can make your whole day worthwhile.

TimeoutQueen

Addie Rising is a Southern California native who has always felt a strange connection to the South. So strange, in fact, that she and her Massachusetts-born husband, Kurt, up and moved to Charlotte in 2005. Since Addie’s three children — Avery, Ella and Joey — and their activities clearly aren’t enough, she alleviates the sheer boredom of raising three kids (hardy har har) by working as a freelance writer and web producer.

Addie currently serves as the Guide to Charlotte for About.com where she writes and produces all the content for the site. Since February 2007, Addie has served as the web editor for Charlotte magazine. Prior to that, Addie wrote, edited and produced content for Bizjournals.com in Charlotte, SportsLine.com in Fort Lauderdale, The Palm Beach Post Online, and the Pasadena Star News in Pasadena, Calif.
